Neuro-Based Movement

About Sophie

Sophie Tabak is a certified Master Practitioner for Z-Health Performance Solutions (neuro-centric movement training) and holds a master level certification in Neural Reset Therapy (a form of bodywork to reduce pain and improve range of motion). She is the first and only fully certified Z-Health Master Practitioner and NRT therapist in the state of Arkansas.

Sophie studied under Kelly Kane and Matt McCulloch, renowned educators in the Pilates industry, and under Danielle Conner, a resident instructor for Cirque du Soleil. Sophie currently studies Z-Health Performance Solutions under Dr. Eric Cobb. He is a respected lecturer in neuroscience and physical performance who is highly sought after by military, law enforcement, and professional and Olympic athletes. She maintains strong working relationships with all her mentors.

Whether your goals are to increase overall strength, recovery from injury, reduce pain, or improve athletic performance, Sophie tailors each session for the individual. She uses her training in bodywork, anatomy, and applied neurology to inform her work with clients. This gives the client a well-rounded session each time to achieve individual goals. Having a background in psychology, she believes effective communication, respect, and client education are key components to develop a solid working relationship with each person.

A background as a licensed massage therapist, working primarily in clinical settings, Pilates training focusing on rehabilitative movement, and training in Z-Health Performance Solutions places her in a unique position to help with a wide range of goals. She has worked with people of all ages and various physical limitations, from novice movers to professional athletes.

The Philosophy

An Individual Approach.

The philosophy of the MVMT Place is centered around an individualized approach by offering 1-1 sessions. My work is rooted in the understanding of current research about the brain and neuroplasticity. I apply this knowledge of movement neurology to achieve each client’s goal. Regardless of age or physical ability, if you are recovering from injury, have chronic pain, want to get stronger, improve your balance, improve your eyesight, or just feel better, I can help.

We will begin with a thorough movement evaluation to assess exactly what your body and brain need. This includes balance, gait, and ranges of motion. Working from a foundation of Pilates, I uniquely tailor each session to target specific movement goals. However, this is not your typical Pilates movement session. It will include cognitive, balance, and vision skills training, specific to you, integrated into each session. It will never be the same session. Keeping training a fun and novel experience is crucial for developing beneficial neuroplasticity.

Current research in neuroscience shows how impactful our visual and vestibular (balance/inner ear) systems are on movement, thought, and emotion. There is significant research describing the benefits of cognitive training coupled with physical training. The eyes are a part of our brain and are controlled by muscles that should also be trained, like all other muscles in our body. The vestibular system tells us where we are in space -- are we lying down, standing, turning right or left? It is involved with motion sickness, dizziness, and even poor posture. Our proprioceptive system (joints, muscles, tendons, receptors etc.) also helps us understand our surroundings.

At the MVMT Place, we will look at how the brain and body work together to receive and integrate information. These functions affect our movement quality, strength, balance, posture, sense of wellbeing, visual clarity, etc. I then implement precise exercises and drills to focus on specific goals.

Do you want to be more coordinated, build strength and overall stability, work on fall prevention, improve at your sport, move without pain? The possibilities are endless. I strongly believe that you are in charge of your health. My role, as a movement coach, is to provide you the information and techniques to help you reach your goals. I strongly believe in the benefit of you being an active participant in your own health.

Through this work, you will learn a lot about yourself. You will start to find connections that make sense. You will start to move better and feel better.
